Responsible Travel Policy

We design all our tours keeping in mind that the local community is directly benefited economically, socially and environmentally. We adhere to the guidelines of Cape Town Agreement 2002. Keeping that in mind, all our tours are aligned to -

Social Responsibility -

  • All accommodations we offer to guests are personally reviewed by our team.
  • We ensure that local SHG/ NGO, managing group of homestays is consistently contributing towards sustainable development of the community.
  • Our accommodations are run by families with local staff.
  • We also look at how the family is involved in development of local community.
  • Our village experiences are based on ‘storytelling’ rather than sightseeing. This is to ensure practical cultural exchange.
  • We encourage participation of women in decision making and entrepreneurship.
  • We discourage visit to orphanages. Our school visits by guests are limited to volunteering for an activity. We do not encourage building emotional connection with children.
  • No animals are subject to cruelty on our tours. We observe them in their natural habitat and do not provide them bait.
  • We visit local craft centers run by SHGs to facilitate interaction between guests and artisans. We also advise guests to buy products from these centers if they choose to.

Economic Responsibility -

  • Our community homestay programs are managed by ‘Rotation system’. This is to ensure that each homestay owner gets equal opportunity.
  • There are no hidden costs associated once the price of experience is committed to you.
  • 10% of cost is directly reinvested into community development project like –
    a. Implementation and designing of best community tourism practices.
    b. Homestay maintenance.
    c. Training of new guides.
    d. Plantation of trees.
  • Our guides are identified and trained from local village. Their standard fee is regulated.
  • We also give souvenir to our guests that are directly sourced from artisan families. It is cost effective, bio-degradable, ethnic and provides direct income to the family.

Environmental Responsibility -

  • The vehicles we use are either BS-IV standard (the highest emission norms in India) or CNG powered.

  • The drivers of vehicles are locals and trained to drive safely and with optimum usage of fuel in mountain terrains.

  • Recyclable carry bags are used on all outdoor activities to collect the trash generated by guests.

  • We don’t use single use plastic water bottles. Guests are advised to bring their own refillable bottle.

  • The invoices, receipts and internal documentation we generate are electronic. We don’t use paper print outs.

  • Guests are advised not to purchase food in plastic packaging while they are at village locations. Eg. Chips and biscuits.

  • On outdoor activities, we advise guests not to pluck flowers or throw stones at animals.

  • Water heating in mountains is primarily done by solar power. We encourage bathing over shower to conserve water.

  • LED lighting is used rather than CFL, tube lights or tungsten bulbs. Handheld lanterns used are solar powered and run on LED.

  • Guests are given an overview of local medicinal plants to enhance their knowledge and to encourage use of Indian indigenous medicines.

Code of Conduct

  • Most of our accommodations are run by local families not by hired staff. You will experience a homely environment, not that of a hotel.

  • Our experiences take you to regions which still have rich flora and fauna. Minimize use of plastic and dispose it in allocated areas. Our team will guide you about the local waste disposal practices.

  • Do not wear bright colour clothes that do not blend with colours of nature for activities like bird watching and forest walks.

  • Respect the local community, their culture, cuisine, religion, beliefs and ways of living. We will facilitate meaningful interactions between you and locals.

  • Buy and consume locally produced goods. We take you to local community run projects that produce handicrafts, souvenirs, and other products that you can to buy if you choose to. This ensures that the money goes directly to the craftsmen.

  • Meals provided to you will be locally sourced and organic at most places. This keeps the costs low and supports village economy by not importing raw material from cities.

  • Although the places we take you to do not have touts, we still urge you to refrain from buying any handicrafts, liquor or souvenir if they are offered to you by random people from village.

  • You will be surrounded by rich flora and fauna. Please don’t pluck flowers or disturb animals. You will be provided with sufficient briefing by our tour leader before outdoor activities.

  • Consumption of alcohol: We do not stop you but encourage you to drink responsibly. Irresponsible drinking has long lasting social impacts. Do not accept drinks from local village folk during treks and village walks.

  • We encourage you to share this type of travel with others. Up to 65% of what you pay is directly routed back to the community.
