Jaipur Artisans Tour

Experiences With Marble and Brass Artisans
Jaipur artisans walking tour
What to Expect

When Sawai Jai Singh II shifted his capital from Amer and established Jaipur in the 17th century, he invited artisans from many parts of India to work in the city palace. It is now called the ‘Old Jaipur’ or the ‘Pink city’.

In search of good opportunities, the artisans arrived and many settled with their families in Jaipur itself never to return. The descendants of these families are still largely involved in their ancestral jobs with zeal and a will to keep the art alive.

This tour is our effort to facilitate direct interactions between you and the artisans and to give a new source of livelihood to our local storytellers. The tour is done at a leisurely pace, and we may also spend longer time with one artisan family if it interests you more. The marble masons generally make table-tops, sculptures, flower vases, and serving trays to name some. You may see the brass metalworkers creating beautiful vases, chandeliers, and baskets.

  • Visit the brass metal artisans and marble masons.
  • Home visits and interactions with the artisans.
  • Traditional snacks tasting on the tour.
  • Immersive activities with the artisans. Have a go at polishing a marble piece yourself.
  • Storytelling on the art forms and the artisan families.

FAQs

Are the snacks hygienic?

We have reviewed the sellers and have chosen only those that have good hygiene. We have done the tour with numerous guests and all have worked well. But we still leave the tasting to your discretion.

What if I don't want to do the activity myself? Can I just watch?

Yes, that’s ok. The hands-on activity is a part of this tour but if you want to take it as a demonstration it is possible.

Can I do this as a private tour?

Yes, you can. Just tell the number of people you are and any other special requirements along with your enquiry, and we will set up a private tour for you.

Can you provide pickup from my hotel?

Yes, we can do that. Simply send us the name and approximate location of your hotel when you send us the message with your enquiry. Depending upon the number of people, we will set up a private car for you. The charges for that are extra.

Is it safe for a solo female traveler?

Yes, we have had hundreds of solo female travelers on this tour. Our storyteller and tour guide is well equipped to take care of the safety aspect.
